Our process is about creating lifelong bonds

Step One: Get to Know Us

Our staff is there for you every step of the way. We begin our services with an orientation that allows you to become familiar with our agency and our program. You will have a trained member of our staff available to answer all of your questions.

Step Two: Getting to Know You

All families considering foster care adoption must become certified. Boys & Girls Aid helps you with this process by offering training sessions, providing assistance obtaining criminal background clearances, and help completing all the necessary paperwork. We will also conduct the required home study, to ensure that your home and your family are prepared to have a new child or sibling group join you.

Step Three: Matching

Next we work to identify a match between your family and a waiting child or sibling group whose needs you are best able to meet. We work on your behalf to distribute your home study to children’s case workers and facilitate communication between the child’s case worker and our families.

Step Four: Committee

When a match has been identified, Boys & Girls Aid staff prepares a presentation about your home and your family for committee of child welfare professionals. The committee will decide if your family and home are the best match for the particular needs and interests of the child. Typically, up to three families are considered at committee for each child. When a match is confirmed, Boys & Girls Aid helps you plan and prepare for the transition through the placement process until the adoption is finalized. We will make sure that you are informed of all the adoption assistance and post adoption resources available in your community.

How much does foster care adoption cost?

Families adopting through our Foster Care program pay a series of fees totaling $6,000 - $7,000. Qualifying families may receive financial assistance through the state of Oregon Department of Human Services. Assistance is available to offset the adoption fee, as well as to assist with financial support after the child or children join your family.

Why Should I Choose Boys & Girls Aid?

Boys & Girls Aid is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization who has been finding permanent homes for Oregon’s children since 1885. More than 17,000 adoptions have been completed since the agency was founded. Boys & Girls Aid is a founding member of the Child Welfare League of America and the Special Needs Adoption Coalition. As one of the few Oregon agencies accredited, we are held to a higher standard than others in our field. At Boys & Girls Aid, we are committed to finding families for children, not children for families. This means we always place the highest priority on what is in the child’s best interest.
